The first step if looking at what is out there and then taking a honest look at how you live and what is important to you. These are all great products in their own way. But what you need often changes over time. I’ve used many planning systems in the past and I’m always open to trying new things.

And with the supply chain making it a constant challenge to get what you want, it’s never too early to start thinking about planning tools for 2023! I have already ordered my system for next year and I’m already planning my themes.

So let’s take a look at the most popular and unique planning methods you have to choose from.

bullet journal

The Creativity Of a Bullet Journal

A bullet journal is a notebook that is used as a planning system. It is a non-linear, flexible, and creative way to organize your life. You can use it to track your goals, habits, tasks, or anything else you want to keep track of!

The journal has several different parts, with each section having its page or pages:

  • Index – The index lists all the months in the year and shows how many pages are needed for each month by summing up how many words/lines appear on each page of the bullet journal notebook.
  • Future Log – This part contains blank spaces which allow you to write down important dates that occur further into the future (like birthdays).

The main appeal of a Bullet Journal (or Bujo) is that it lets you get creative on each and every page. The downside is you have to come up with your own layout for each and every page.

I’ve started and stopped several of these over the years. I still love the idea of them but I honestly find myself getting super excited to start one but generally set them aside over time because I get too busy to devote a lot of time to maintaining them. But they are just so pretty I can understand why they continue to thrive as a concept.

Day Designer Planner

The popular Day Designer Planner

The Day Designer is one of the most popular daily planners on the market. It’s a simple, straightforward way to organize your life and schedule your time. The Week-at-a-Glance format allows you to see your week at a glance, so you can plan for what needs to be done each day.

The Day Designer is great for anyone who wants an affordable but stylish planner that won’t take up too much space on their desk or in their purse.

Blue Sky Planner

The Blue Sky Planners

Another popular choice among planners is the Blue Sky planner. It has an affordable price point (around $10) so it’s a great value if you want to write in your planner or track habits and goals.

Blue Sky offers different versions of its planners, each with unique features. For example, their “goal setting” planner has an entire section for tracking goals and achievements for each month. If that sounds interesting to you, this might be the best daily planner for you.

Moleskine Planner

Moleskine Planners

Moleskine notebooks are a famous brand of notebooks for quality and convenience. Moleskine is a line of notebooks that are available in many sizes and styles, as well as many colors.

These notebooks are designed primarily for people who want to write down their thoughts, ideas, and other thoughts creatively but they have also expanded into preprinted planners.

The Happy Planner Name Says It all

The Happy Planner comes in several layouts, dated and undated, vertical and horizonal, that includes space for you to write down the things you’re grateful for in your day and also features stickers and productivity tools that let you create a very personal system or organize your unique life (even letting you focus in your life in pictures!).

The only downside, if there is one, to such a system, is the sheer number of choices that gives you. It is incredibly easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices you get here and it can get a little pricy to buy all the accessories for this planner.

But those choices are probably what makes this one of the most popular planning systems out there so it can work for influencers, teachers, homemakers or retirees. It is incredibly flexible to any lifestyle or planning goal.

Panda Planner Good Organization

Panda Planner is a good basic planner. It’s a great planner for people who like to see their progress, and it’s a great planner for people who like to be creative outside the lines. The planner itself covers all the basics and lets you add your own create touches to the basic layout. It has 1 day per two page spread so you have lots of room to be detailed in your scheduling.

This planner has a lot of space for writing and lists, but its pages are not perforated. You can’t easily tear out your pages to use them as a journal or scrapbook. However, it’s still a great choice if you like to write in your planner every day and want more room than other planners offer.

The Erin Condren LifePlanner is also one of the few planners I know that come with inspirational quotes on each page—and they’re particularly inspiring. You can choose from “Be Positive” (I love this one).

Organize Your Life With A Daily Planner

The Undated Daily Planner

I’m currently using an undated planner. I like the flexibility of being able to start a planner anytime. These were perfect for me when I was in school because I could keep a record of the school year instead of the calendar year. Even though I’m using it on a regular calendar year, I still love the flexibility the layout provides and I have not found a reason to stray to another system (yet).

They also gave me more creative flexibility since I’m starting with a blank canvas instead of a preprinted year.

The sections are often simpler, allowing them to used as-is or repurposed more easily than other formats.

But it is really about personal preference.

And sometimes that preference it to have it all. You can also split the difference and use both a paper and electronic planner.

This allows them to get the best of both worlds.

People that study these things have proven that writing things down helps you remember them better than typing.

But we live in an electronic age where we all carry a phone. Why waste paper when you can use re-usable pages that upload to the cloud?

Just write it down in your Rocketbook planner with an erasable ink pen, snap a picture and the page will load to a file in the cloud that you can access later. Great for schedules or note taking.

This system personally got me through my graduate school program without fussing with a lot of papers or trying to locate an important note.

Combining our phones, with schedules that allow us to be reminded of events can work in conjunction with the best daily planners to give you the best of both worlds.

The key to this system is not to try to do everything in each system. That’s just doubling your work.

Instead, make sure you utilize the best of each system: memory and the big overall picture for the best daily planner. And timing and reminders for electronics.

After I got through school, I didn’t use this system as much, but I was a lifesaver at the time.
